AutoIt is a scripting language for Windows. AutoIt can:

  • Provide a general-purpose scripting language for all Windows versions
  • Simulate keystrokes (supports most keyboard layouts)
  • Simulate mouse movements and clicks
  • Move, resize and manipulate windows
  • Interact directly with "controls" on a window (set/get text from edit controls, check boxes and radio buttons, select items in drop-down lists, etc.)
  • Create complex user interfaces (GUIs)
  • Work with the clipboard to cut/paste text items
  • Provide a scriptable RunAs function for Windows 2000/XP/2003
  • Compile scripts to a stand-alone executable

You can download AutoIt from the website (www.autoitscript.com). The forum there is very supportive and a great source of help.

I use AutoIt to automate some tasks and do various things. Click on the 'Au3' icons to download the scripts or 'A' icon to download an executable. Remember that to run scripts you will need to download and install AutoIt (though you can view them in 'NotePad' or any text editor). All the executables are standalone - just double-click to run, simply delete to 'uninstall'.

Program Script Exe
PingIt (Version 2.2) - a graphical ping by IP or URL. You can save IP/URL and other options so they're loaded when you start PingIt.

HideToTrayDemo - a demonstration script of one way to minimise an AutoIt application to the tray and restore.

RefreshIt - automatically refresh an Internet Explorer page every so often (user chooses interval).

Morse - the start of a morse code generator. It provides the basic functions to 'beep' a letter and a sentence.
